With around 80,000 employees, the Japanese joint venture Astemo is a major player in the supplier market. The British subsidiary Astemo UK has now announced its intention to set up a new production line for electric car inverters in Bolton in Greater Manchester. This step is expected to create or secure 220 jobs, “ensure a stable supply of electrification products for the UK and EU markets,” according to an accompanying press release.

The manufacturer provides hardly any details about the inverters themselves. Astemo merely mentions that they are “highly efficient, compact and lightweight” next-generation products that have been developed with electromagnetic compatibility in mind and comply with strict European market standards. The development of the corresponding production capacities is being supported by the British government (via the Automotive Transformation Fund). Astemo is aiming to start production in spring 2027.

Toru Kamioke, Senior Executive Vice President of Astemo, commented: “This investment in our Bolton plant in the UK will mark the fourth country in which Astemo manufactures electrification products, following Japan, the US and China. It is an important achievement in our global electrification supply chain. Through the supply of products from the Bolton plant, we will respond to Europe’s EV market growth, while contributing to job creation and the development of the UK automotive industry.”
