Audi’s business in China is currently causing problems. The Chinese market is one of the main reasons why the Ingolstadt-based company’s profits fell by a third year-on-year in the first half of 2025. The new Q6L e-tron, the long version of the luxury SUV, is one of the models in which the manufacturer has high hopes in the Chinese market. It stretches to 4.88 metres and is therefore around 11 centimetres longer than the local version.

The brand launched pre-sales on 26 July. Prices start at 353,000 yuan, or the equivalent of around 42,000 euros. The Q6L e-tron Sportback with its coupé-like roofline costs 373,000 yuan, or around 45,000 euros. Its top version, the ‘Pioneer Edition’, costs 403,000 yuan (approx. 48,500 euros). The first cars are due to be delivered to customers in August.

The VW subsidiary manufactures this variant, which is tailored exclusively to the needs of the local public, as part of a joint venture with its Chinese partner FAW in Changchun in north-east China. The Q6L e-tron celebrated its premiere in spring 2024, meaning the official market launch will take place over a year later.

Compared to the normal Q6 e-tron, the long-wheelbase version is optionally available with a 7 kWh larger lithium-ion battery, which has a gross capacity of 107 kWh and enables a range of over 700 kilometres according to the Chinese CLTC standard. Like the Q6 e-tron in Europe, the Chinese version is also based on the PPE platform from Porsche and Audi.

This has an 800-volt architecture and thus enables a charging capacity of up to 270 kW. This means that enough electricity for 260 kilometres can be recharged in ten minutes. Ideally, it takes 25 minutes to increase the charge level from 10 to 80 per cent. The Q6L is available either as a pure rear-wheel drive model with 255 kW or with electric all-wheel drive and a system output of 345 kW.

Autonomous driving functions and digital features are particularly important to Chinese customers. That is why the upmarket versions of the Q6L e-tron are equipped with a customised version of Huawei’s ‘Qiankun’ system as standard.
