IBU-tec is stepping up its activities in the field of battery recycling, focusing on a promising growth market. At its Weimar site, IBU-tec and machine manufacturer Hosokawa Alpine have set up a new plant specifically designed for processing coated cathode foils from old batteries.
IBU-tec is contributing its extensive expertise in the development and processing of battery materials, while Augsburg-based Hosokawa Alpine is supplying modern grinding and screening machines that enable efficient processing. The project serves both to process the company’s own materials and to develop and service projects on behalf of customers.
With the new facility, IBU-tec is clearly positioning itself in the global growth market for battery recycling. Studies predict that the market volume will grow to over US$ billion by 2032, representing an average annual growth rate of more than 50 per cent. The EU Battery Regulation is further driving this development: manufacturers of industrial and electric car batteries are obliged to use recycled materials in newly produced energy storage devices.

With this facility, IBU-tec is underlining its role in global megatrends such as climate protection, resource conservation and sustainable production methods. The company not only develops and produces battery materials for e-mobility and stationary energy storage, but also offers solutions for air purification and plastic reduction. It’s approximately 230 employees supply not only medium-sized companies, but also globally active corporations.
