BMW Group Plant Leipzig marked 20 years of series production with representatives from politics and business

BMW Group Plant Leipzig has marked 20 years of series production with representatives from politics and business attending the anniversary event. The facility has produced almost four million vehicles since 2005 and received over €5.6bn in investment, creating 6,680 jobs with BMW.

More than 11,600 people currently work at the site, which is the only BMW Group plant to produce BMW and Mini vehicles on the same production line. The facility operates round-the-clock production in three shifts with customer-specification builds across combustion engine, hybrid and electric drive options.

The plant expects to achieve a new production record in 2025, surpassing its previous record of 246,195 vehicles in 2024. BMW Group plants in Germany will produce over one million vehicles in 2025, accounting for approximately one in four vehicles manufactured in the country.

In a statement, Milan Nedeljković, Member of the Board of Management for Production, said: “Leipzig is synonymous with innovation and digitalisation—and has proved it time and again over the last 20 years. Because of its flexibility and efficiency, it is a key cornerstone in what we do, as we believe in Germany’s strength within our global production network.”

Petra Peterhänsel, Plant Director, noted the facility is investing hundreds of millions in extending and modernising systems for forthcoming vehicle generations.
