Looking to run high-quality pistons in your engine? ICON forged piston and piston ring kits have many features high-dollar custom pistons have – except the price tag. Choose from four versions for everything from street engines to all-out race powerplants.

    FHR Series

FHR stands for Formed Head Relief, a process where the valve reliefs are formed as the piston blank is pressed into the die, creating a strong, light forging. Many pistons with domed heads are solid, which allows ICON to tailor the dome height for specific compression ratios.

ICON FHR Series Pistons are forged from low-expansion 4032 aluminum alloy to maintain tighter piston-to-wall clearances. That means better cylinder sealing and less cylinder wear with OEM noise levels, making them ideal for street and lightly boosted applications. All sets are weight-matched to within +/- 2 grams for vibration-free operation.
    Other features include:
    • Precision forged crowns with oversized pockets for larger valves found in aftermarket heads
    • Low-friction, high-adhesion molybdenum skirt coating reduces dry startup scuffing
    • Ring grooves, ring lands, and skirt profiles are diamond-machined to very tight tolerances
    • Accumulator grooves reduce gas pressure to help stabilize the top ring and maximize ring seal
    • .030-inch offset wrist pins reduce piston ‘slap’
    • Cast iron with moly facing top rings, cast-iron second rings, and stainless-steel oil rings
    • 5/64-, 5/64-, 3/16-inch ring stack on most applications

    Premium Series

ICON Premium Series Pistons are designed for high-performance street and race use. The pistons are forged from either high-strength 4032 alloy (like FHR pistons) or 2618 billet aluminum alloy. The 2618 alloy has a lower silicon content than 4032, making it better suited to high-compression and power-adder applications.

    Other features include:
    • Fully CNC-machined valve reliefs and crowns
    • Polished piston crowns help maximize combustion efficiency
    • Dual forced pin oiling
    • Diamond CNC-turned skirts
    • Second land accumulator groove
    • Spacer rings provided for shorter compression height pistons
    • Triple wound spiral locks
    • Lateral gas porting on higher compression ratios
    • Plasma-moly coated ductile iron or cast-iron top rings, stainless-steel oil rings
    • Oil support rings included for applications where the wrist pin intersects the oil groove
    • 1/16-, 1/16-, 3/16-inch ring stack on most applications

Summit Racing also carries ICON Premium Series Anodized Pistons. The pistons have anodized crowns and top ring grooves to focus heat in the piston crown to improve combustion efficiency. This anodizing limits top ring micro-welding to the groove under severe operating conditions. These pistons are also available in forged 4032 or 2618 aluminum—depending on the application.

    Elite Series

Forged exclusively from 2618 aluminum, ICON Elite Series Pistons are designed for all-out race engines. The pistons have ICON’s Line2Line adaptive skirt coating. The coating hones itself on the cylinder walls to maintain the proper oil wedge for a perfect fit. That reduces piston rock and shock loads while improving ring seal.

    Other features include:
    • CNC-machined valve reliefs and crown
    • Diamond CNC-turned skirts
    • Anodized top ring groove to greatly reduce micro-welding
    • Anodized piston crown to improve combustion efficiency
    • Second land accumulator groove
    • Dual forced pin oiling
    • Lateral gas porting on high-compression pistons
    • Spacer rings provided for shorter compression height pistons
    • Plasma-moly coated steel top rings, ductile iron second rings, and stainless-steel oil control rings
    • 1.2mm, 1.2mm, 3.0mm ring stack on most applications
