In partnership with its authorised local dealer Cycle & Carriage, Daimler Truck has handed over the first Mercedes-Benz eEconic in Singapore to 800 Super Holdings Limited, a private waste management company. In a social media post marking the occasion, the company confirmed plans to supply a further 17 units, bringing the total order to 18 electric heavy-duty trucks.

Unveiled at IFAT 2022, the Mercedes-Benz eEconic is a low-floor truck measuring 8.3 metres in length, 2.5 metres in width and 2.9 metres in height, with a 4.0-metre wheelbase. Daimler Truck developed the vehicle on the same platform as the Mercedes-Benz eActros and offers it in a 6×2 configuration. Two integrated electric motors deliver 330 kW continuous output (400 kW peak) and work with a two-speed transmission.

The eEconic has a gross vehicle weight of 27 tonnes, a kerb weight of 9.2 tonnes and a payload capacity (without body) of around 17.8 tonnes. It reaches a top speed of 89 kph, sufficient for urban heavy-duty operations.

Three battery packs, each with a net capacity of around 97 kWh, power the motors. They support charging at up to 160 kW, enabling a 20–80% state of charge in about 75 minutes. Depending on operation, the batteries allow up to 100 km in municipal use (VECTO Municipal Cycle) or 150 km in mixed duty (VECTO Municipal, Regional Delivery and Urban Delivery combined).

Alongside the Mercedes-Benz eEconic, 800 Super Holdings Limited also operates the BYD T9 electric truck in its waste management fleet. Singapore currently has around 52,000 heavy vehicles on its roads, accounting for about 31 per cent of land transport emissions, according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The government is thus promoting the uptake of fully electric heavy-duty vehicles.

In March, the LTA launched the Heavy Vehicle Zero Emissions Scheme (HVZES) to achieve price parity between electric and combustion-engine heavy trucks. It also announced the Electric Heavy Vehicle Charger Grant (EHVCG) to support the rollout of charging infrastructure.

Although initially designed for the waste management sector, Daimler Truck has since expanded the eEconic’s applications. In March 2024, the company delivered an aircraft fuel tanker based on the eEconic to Skytanking for deployment at Stuttgart Airport. In October, a helicopter refuelling variant was handed over to Airbus Helicopters for use at its Donauwörth hub in Germany. Daimler Truck also considers the model a suitable platform for future firefighting vehicles.
