The agreement will see EDAG Group develop and manufacture the main structure of the AIR ONE model, following two years of collaboration between the two companies. EDAG will also work on other assemblies, including folding wings and engine arms, plus the modular cabin space, which can be used for either passengers or shipping.

The AIR ONE will come in a couple of model variants. The fully electric model will provide one hour of flight time with a payload of up to 250kg. EDAG states that a hybrid variant could also provide a range extension of up to 450km. AIR is reportedly already assembling and testing the aircraft following the delivery of the initial structures.

In terms of timeline, a piloted model is set to be available for private use by 2026, with an uncrewed cargo production version in the pipeline for launch customers as soon as this year. EDAG says the letter of intent is the first step towards closer collaboration on full series development and production later down the line.

Harald Keller, CEO of EDAG Group, commented: “The collaboration with AIR emphasises our commitment to delivering high-performance, modular solutions for forward-looking mobility concepts, even beyond the road. The project is a good example of engineering for practical applications that combines precision, flexibility and efficiency.”

Rani Plaut, CEO of AIR, added: “EDAG’s expertise in the design and production of complex structural assemblies allows us to take a major step toward making advanced air mobility available to the masses. This partnership paves the way for streamlined, scalable production of the AIR ONE and enables faster delivery to meet growing consumer and business demand for accessible air transportation.”

In a separate press release, AIR revealed that in the last year, it has doubled its team size, delivered its first cargo prototype unit ahead of schedule, and secured 2,400 pre-orders for the piloted AIR ONE.
