Ford is reaching back into its extensive history for a new appearance package that brings the 1980s and ’90s style to its newest pony car.
The company has announced a new Mustang FX package for the 2026 Mustang that pulls its inspiration directly from the third-generation Fox body, a fan-favorite era known for its distinct look.
The package is a full-body tribute, complete with signature white wheels and plaid seats.
On the outside, the Mustang FX package is immediately recognizable by its 19-inch Oxford White wheels. A standard five-spoke design is included, while buyers who opt for the GT Performance package will get a more intricate-looking wheel design.
The Performance package also adds white-painted elements to the Mustang’s grille nostrils, which are gray on the standard model. A new paint color, Adriatic Blue Metallic, looks a lot like the classic teal used on the 1993 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra.
The 5.0 fender badges get a crisp white outline, and the car’s tail lights also receive white accents.
Ford noted that these special tail lights will also be available to purchase separately through its parts catalog. The retro look is finished with a period-correct font on the wheel center caps and a decal at the top of the rear window.
Inside the car, the retro theme continues with plaid cloth inserts on the perforated leather seats. This classic pattern is available on both the standard seats and the optional Recaro buckets (on coupe models).
A Mustang GT badge on the passenger side of the dash mimics the style used on the original Fox-body cars, and it’s backed by the same trim found in the high-output Mustang Dark Horse. The interior also receives City Silver and Adriatic Blue contrast stitching.
This new appearance option is available on the Mustang GT Premium trim for both the coupe and convertible. The package requires the 5.0-liter V8 engine, but buyers can still choose between the standard six-speed manual or the available 10-speed automatic transmission.
Ford has not yet announced how much the FX package will cost but has said that order books for the 2026 Mustang lineup will open later this month.
For context, the 2025 hardtop GT Premium starts at $53,075, with the convertible starting at $58,575, and the GT Performance pack adds another $5,660.
We dig the retro teal paint, but can’t figure out what Ford was thinking with the busy white wheels. Only one Fox Mustang came with white wheels, the red special edition back in 1992 that had painted five-star ponies, and these look nothing like that.
The plaid seat inserts are interesting, though. While we’ve never heard of any Mustang enthusiast pining for those, we think it ads an interesting touch inside.
