Sometimes it feels like China is not just a different country, but a different world. The new and improved GAC Aion RT has just been launched over there, and the beautiful, high-tech electric sedan is apparently being sold for just $14,030–17,400 (99,800–123,800 yuan).

Well, this must have a tiny battery and golf cart range, right? Actually, if you “splurge” on the higher-end trim, you get 650 km (404 miles) of range on a full charge (CLTC rating system) from a 68.1 kWh CATL battery. That’s no small battery, and an enormous amount of range. If you go cheaper and get the $14,030 version of the Aiot GT, you still get 520 km (323 miles) of range from a 55.1 kWh CATL battery.

The minimalist design combined with sporty air intakes helps with the car’s aerodynamics, contributing to that long range and helping the car achieve a 0.208 Cd (coefficient of drag). Still, the car is not bland. The designers were reportedly going for a “velociraptor” look, and I’m sorry to use this descriptor twice today, but the car looks stunning to me.

Despite the low cost, the GAC Aion RT still includes a lidar sensor, 8.88-inch floating instrument cluster for the driver as well as a 14.6-inch central infotainment screen, wireless EV charging, and Nvidia’s Orin-X chip providing 254 TOPS of computing power. By the way, “Its ‘no-map NDA’ intelligent driving solution leverages fourth-generation end-to-end large models to navigate even unmarked roads without requiring high-precision maps, covering 99% of driving scenarios,” CarNewsChina reports.

Here are more specs and details on the updated electric budget car:

    • 400V silicon carbide 3C fast-charging, allowing a 30–80% charge in 18 minutes, or 160–200 km of range in 10 minutes
    • Color choice: Crystal Purple, Moonlight Rice, Polar White, Holographic Silver, Solar Corona Red, Sea Fluorescent Grey, and Night Shadow Black
    • Infotainment uses ADiGO 5.0 platform
    • 11-speaker 5.1-channel sound system with 8-inch 45Hz subwoofer
    • 150 kW (201 hp) and 165 kW (221 hp) from electric motors
    • 4,865 mm long
    • 1,875 mm wide
    • 1,520 mm tall
    • 2,775 mm wheelbase

What a steal. With options like this on the Chinese EV market, no wonder over one million EVs are now being sold there each month.
