Hyundai Motor Group marks construction milestone for KRW1.2tr facility designed to internalise battery capabilities
Hyundai Motor Group held a topping-out ceremony for its Future Mobility Battery Campus in Anseong, Korea, marking progress on a facility designed to advance the company’s battery research and development capabilities. The KRW1.2tr investment represents the group’s first comprehensive battery R&D hub, with completion targeted for the end of 2026.
The campus spans approximately 197,000 square metres with a total floor area of 111,000 square metres. Construction began in January 2025 at Anseong’s Fifth General Industrial Complex.
The facility will enable Hyundai Motor Group to internalise core battery capabilities including cell design, process engineering and integrated control systems. It will also provide high-precision validation of battery technologies under conditions reflecting real-world vehicle requirements.
“Through the Future Mobility Battery Campus, we aim to seamlessly connect the entire battery ecosystem to foster cross-industry collaboration and accelerate technological advancement,” Heui Won Yang, President and Head of the R&D Division at Hyundai Motor Group, said. “We are committed to strengthening Hyundai Motor Group’s EV battery competitiveness and advancing global electrification through strategic collaborations.”
The campus will initially focus on high-performance lithium-ion cells for electric vehicles (EVs) and extended range electric vehicles (EREVs), with plans to expand to other formats and materials. Research will incorporate artificial intelligence-based predictive modelling and big-data analytics to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
During the ceremony, Hyundai Motor Group signed a memorandum of understanding with Gyeonggi Province, Anseong City and Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation to develop a battery industry ecosystem in the region.
