Bill Holmes, a longtime employee of Mevotech and a well‑known figure among colleagues and friends, died March 17 at Bethell Hospice in Inglewood, Ontario. He was 61.

He died after a year‑long battle with cancer, according to an obituary. Holmes spent more than 30 years with Mevotech, where he was widely respected for his professionalism, generosity and positive outlook. Colleagues described him as welcoming, kind and selfless.

“He believed every problem could be solved with a cup of coffee and made meetings more enjoyable with his quick wit and great sense of humor. He had the natural ability to say the right things to make you feel better. He was incredibly easy to be around and you always walked away feeling just a little bit better,” the obituary says.

Holmes was senior director of national accounts, with Mevoteech. In an announcement, the company mourned his passing.

“Bill was more than a colleague, he was a trusted partner, mentor, and friend to many,” said Ezer Mevorach, chief executive officer of Mevotech. “His impact on our team and the broader industry is immeasurable. He will be deeply missed, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Holmes is survived by his partner of 24 years, Bernie O’Leary, and his son, Chris. He is also survived by his mother, Doris; his sister, Dana, and her husband, Anto; and his nieces, Daniella and Nadia, and nephew, Anthony. He will be remembered by extended family in Canada and Malta, as well as by friends and neighbours.

Outside of work, the obituary said, Holmes was known for his love of travel, particularly for business, and had a long‑standing fascination with airports and airplanes, travelling often with family. He was also an avid reader with a strong interest in World War II and Jewish and German history, and was known for his ability to carry thoughtful conversation on a wide range of subjects.

Holmes was also a passionate home cook and host, frequently bringing people together over meals. Friends and family recalled his dinner parties as warm, generous gatherings.

“We love you Bill and we will all miss you forever!” the obituary said.

In keeping with his wishes, services will be private.

Donations in Holmes’ memory may be made to Bethell Hospice or the Bethell Hospice Foundation.
