Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) has awarded a contract to Servotech Renewable to supply, install, test, and commission EV chargers at the city’s airport. The Indian EV charging solutions provider will also maintain the facility for five years as part of the contract.

BIAL developed, owns, and operates the Bengaluru airport and is investing 16.2 million rupees (approximately 160,000 euros) in the EV charging hub. The company wants the new charging facility ready within 75 days, likely by the end of September.

Servotech Renewable says it has started work on the new EV charging hub and is strategically building it within the airport premises. The new facility will allow the BIAL to charge electric buses to transport passengers between the terminal and the aircraft and help it significantly reduce carbon emissions in the process.

Considering the large size of the airside operations EV fleet and the high energy storage capacity of their battery packs, BIAL has placed an order with Servotech Renewable for ten 240 kW ultra-fast DC chargers, amounting to a combined capacity of 2.4 MW.

Commenting on the EV charging hub order from BIAL, Servotech Renewable Director Sarika Bhatia said: “This project is more than just an infrastructure milestone, it’s a step toward transforming urban transport at one of India’s busiest airports allowing us to electrify the airport and play a vital role in reducing its carbon emissions with our advanced EV charging technology and infrastructure.”

Bengaluru is among the leading cities in India in EV adoption, and EV charging solutions providers are taking note. Just days before Servotech Renewable announced India’s first EV charging hub for airside operations at the Bengaluru airport, Charge Zone inaugurated the country’s largest EV charging hub in the city, capable of simultaneously serving over 200 vehicles.
