While the number of new electric vehicles is not immense, these 100 EVs are only the start of broader plans to roll out over 3,000 EVs over the next three years.

No mention is made of the specific vehicle models acquired so far, or of those planned for the future, but the operator wrote that they can travel over 333 kilometres per battery charge, and can “recharge to operating readiness” in 30 minutes at a fast charging station. In the press release, a GAC GS3 electric SUV is pictured with LagRide’s livery.

“With charging stations now deployed across Lagos, LagRide is optimising routing and driver scheduling to minimise downtime, ensuring consistent service for riders,” said LagRide’s Executive Director, Adeniyi Saliu, adding: “The cost-efficiency of EVs also means drivers enjoy higher take-home earnings, while Lagos residents benefit from quieter rides and zero-emissions transport that contributes to a cleaner, healthier environment.”

He further elaborated on his company’s plan: “We’re not just adding vehicles. We’re building an ecosystem that improves urban living—more reliable transport, cleaner air, and thousands of dignified jobs in driving, maintenance, and tech-enabled operations.”

Lagride’s PR and Communications Lead, Ifeanyi Abraham, further stated that the company is orienting its operations towards an example from Dubai, where “government-backed e-taxis are widely recognised for safety, affordability, and efficiency,” as Punch NG writes. He said: “We are using technology to serve people, training to professionalise our drivers, and vehicles that align with our environmental values.”
