Lidl Austria has signed a framework agreement for 42 battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks, adding to 14 units already delivered, with all vehicles set to arrive by mid-2027. The retailer will deploy 20 e-trucks by the end of 2025 for nationwide store deliveries as part of its emissions-free delivery target by 2030.
Lidl Austria ceremoniously commissioned the first eActros 600 vehicles during the opening of a new charging park at its logistics site in Laakirchen. Austria’s federal minister for innovation, mobility and infrastructure, Peter Hanke, attended the event alongside Michael Kunz, chief executive at Lidl Austria, and Jens Tittel, chief executive at Daimler Truck Austria.
The retailer is establishing what it describes as the most powerful pure truck charging network in Austrian grocery retail to support the fleet expansion. The vehicles use 100% green electricity, generated by photovoltaic systems on the roofs of logistics centres.
Lidl Austria has operated electric trucks in daily use since 2024 as part of its group-wide climate strategy targeting net zero emissions by 2050. The eActros 600 models have been in continuous operation since mid-August 2025.
“We are very proud of the successful market launch of the eActros 600 in Austria,” Jens Tittel said. “We are also delighted to support Lidl on its journey towards sustainable transport. This demonstrates that electrification in national long-haul and distribution transport is becoming a reality.”
