The C-Class has long been one of Mercedes-Benz’s best-selling model series globally. The company has introduced an all-new electric version, maintaining the model’s focus on comfort, performance, and technology while transitioning to a battery-electric platform. The 2027 Mercedes-Benz C 400 4MATIC Electric is scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2027.

    Design, Interior, and Technology

The electric C-Class features a coupe-like silhouette, short overhangs, and a low front end. Available design elements include an illuminated grille and star-pattern lighting signatures. Aerodynamic enhancements contribute to a drag coefficient starting at 0.22.

Inside, the vehicle uses a dedicated electric architecture to increase interior space, including a 116.6-inch wheelbase. Cargo capacity includes a 16.6-cu.-ft. trunk and additional front storage. Interior materials include available Nappa leather and a certified vegan interior option.

Key interior and technology features include:

    • Optional 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen

    • Over-the-air software updates via Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS)

    • AI-enabled MBUX Virtual Assistant with multi-source integration (ChatGPT, Google, Microsoft)

    • Available augmented reality head-up display

    • Optional SKY CONTROL panoramic roof with adjustable transparency and ambient lighting

The cabin also incorporates ambient lighting, advanced sound systems, and configurable digital displays. Climate control includes a multi-source heat pump that draws energy from the electric drivetrain, battery, and ambient air, reducing energy consumption to roughly one-third of that required by a conventional auxiliary heater.

    Performance, Range, and Charging

The C 400 4MATIC Electric uses dual electric motors with a front disconnect unit and a two-speed transmission on the rear axle.

Key performance and powertrain specifications include:

    • Output: 482 hp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque

    • 0–60 mph: 3.9 seconds (est.)

    • Battery: 94-kWh usable capacity lithium-ion

    • Range: up to 762 km (WLTP)

    • DC fast charging: up to 330 kW

    • Charging time (10–80%): approximately 22 minutes

    • Range added: up to 325 km in 10 minutes (DC fast charging)

The model uses an 800-volt electrical architecture to support high-speed DC charging and improved efficiency. A DC converter enables compatibility with 400-volt charging infrastructure.

The electric C-Class brings together advanced design, range, and charging capabilities for the next generation of luxury EVs.

Regenerative braking delivers up to 300 kW of energy recovery and can bring the vehicle to a complete stop, with adjustable levels controlled via steering wheel paddles.

    Driving Dynamics and Efficiency

The electric C-Class is equipped with rear-axle steering (optional) and available AIRMATIC air suspension with predictive damping. The system uses real-time data, including mapping and vehicle-to-cloud inputs, to adjust ride height and suspension behavior.

    Additional efficiency features include:

    • Aerodynamically optimized body and underbody design

    • Front motor disconnect system that reduces energy losses by decoupling the front axle under low load

    • Battery-to-wheel efficiency of approximately 93% during long-distance driving

    Driver Assistance and Safety

Standard and optional driver assistance systems include:

    • Distance Assist DISTRONIC

    • MB.DRIVE ASSIST and ASSIST PRO (optional)

    • Reverse maneuvering assist

    • PRE-SAFE system with curve detection

The vehicle includes a rigid body structure, multiple airbags, and updated safety systems integrated with onboard computing and sensor data processing.
