Toronto, Ontario — The Lianhe Sowell International Group recently delivered an automated spray painting robot to the Mercedes-Benz Body & Paint Center in Beijing, China, the largest body and paint centre in Asia.
Built by Sowell, a Chinese artificial intelligence technology company, the High Precision Visual Painting Robot is equipped with a 3D vision recognition system, LiDAR, real-time surface mapping and AI dynamic path planning technology. The robot had previously made its debut at Automechanika Shanghai in December 2024 after launching the month prior.
In a press release on June 6, 2025, the company said that sales of the robot will help Sowell “grow as a pioneer in intelligent painting robotics in China’s vehicle repair and maintenance industry, and underscores its dedication to advancing industrial automation through innovative, high-efficiency solutions.”
Equipped with a cutting-edge motion control system and a nine-axis linked joint, the robot moves continuously and inside the spray booth to perform spray painting tasks on any part of the vehicle, including disassembled components. Its vision AI can accurately identify damaged areas and according to the company, the robot achieves millimetre-level precision in painting operations.
The robot’s system improves spraying efficiency by more than 30 percent, reduces paint consumption by more than 20 percent and lowers volatile organic compound emissions compared to manual spray painting. Additionally, the company stated in a press release that the technology reduces operational timelines by 25 percent.
Sowell will deploy the robot to luxury vehicle repair lines and plans to set a new industry standard in Asia’s auto body and paint sector.
