If you have a set of Dunlop TT93GP Pro motorcycle tires that you bought in 2025 in your garage (or on your bike), then you’ll want to know about this new recall. As you may know, Dunlop is owned by parent company Sumitomo Rubber Industries Limited, which recently identified a manufacturing defect with a specific batch of these tires when they were extruded at the Izumiotsu factory in Osaka, Japan.
From January 7, 2025 through July 8, 2025, Dunlop TT93GP Pro front and rear motorcycle tires were produced at the Izumiotsu factory with an extruder defect on the line. According to Sumitomo’s records around 57 such tires produced with this defect were sent to the US market, representing 100 percent of the population. This represents 57 tires in total, including both front and rear tires. The affected sizes are 100/90-12 49J and 120/80-12 55J.
What is the defect we’re talking about? Some of the sidewall rubber compound may inadvertently have ended up on the tire tread surface during extrusion, which could overlay the tread surface that should, under normal circumstances, be making contact with the road. This was, Sumitomo says, “not detectable during the standard vision inspection process at the production factory.”
This unintended migration of sidewall compound to the tread surface could, in turn, reduce traction on the affected tires, particularly if a rider is riding aggressively. Sumitomo is initiating this recall out of an abundance of caution, even though it says its tests do not show measurable degradation in performance, and no injuries were reported at the time it filed this recall report with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The remedy service for this recall will involve Dunlop offering owners a choice, at no cost to them. Owners of the affected tires can either choose to receive a replacement TT93 GP tire of the same specification, which is not part of the recalled batch, or else they can request a full refund of their original purchase price paid for the defective tire. Dealers that collected recalled tires will need to render them unusable by cutting the bead so that they can then be disposed of appropriately.
Dunlop/Sumitomo is notifying its dealer network about this issue between August 25, 2025 and September 12, 2025. It will notify registered owners of these tires between September 15, 2025 and October 10, 2025.
