Toronto, Ontario — CARSTAR has named Mike Cherneta, co-owner of MGM Auto Group, as its 2025 Franchisee of the Year.
The award recognizes leadership, strategic growth and operational excellence across the network.
Cherneta’s career with the company began on the shop floor, where he first joined CARSTAR as an employee. Over the years, he moved into ownership, eventually building MGM Auto Group into a multi-store operation with nine locations, which he co-owns. The business is known for its focus on culture, discipline and customer care.
“This award means everything to us,” said Cherneta. “We’ve built our business by putting people first — from our staff to our customers. I’m honored to be recognized and excited for what’s ahead.”

The Franchisee of the Year award is given annually to a CARSTAR owner who demonstrates exceptional business performance and commitment to the brand’s standards. For Cherneta, it marks a milestone in a career that has spanned from employee to operator of a leading Ontario-based MSO.
