According to Toyota, these will be solutions for charging at home, at work and on the go. According to the company’s Cologne-based European headquarters, “These collaborations aim to create a unique value proposition by combining Toyota’s mobility expertise with the energy sector’s capabilities in grid flexibility, renewable integration, and digital energy services.”
The focus lies on so-called ‘Demand Side Response’ (DSR) solutions, set to launch from 2026, which will provide customers with ‘direct benefits.’ These include reduced energy costs through smart charging, which automatically prioritises cheaper, off-peak periods. Convenience is further enhanced by the ability to control and monitor charging via dedicated apps. Depending on the country, financial incentives may also be available for participating in grid stabilisation programmes. Additionally, charging can become more sustainable by shifting to periods when renewable energy is most abundant.
In Germany, these services will be offered in partnership with The Mobility House Energy, while in the UK, Toyota is collaborating with energy supplier British Gas.
Toyota also plans to introduce Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology in Europe. The first outcomes of these energy partnerships will materialise in 2026 with the launch of Demand Side Response (DSR) solutions, offering customers benefits such as lower energy costs through smart charging. These initiatives will debut in the UK (partnering with British Gas) and Germany (partnering with The Mobility House Energy).
“Looking ahead, TME plans to expand its energy collaborations to additional countries and introduce more advanced solutions, including Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) integration,” the automaker stated. However, specific countries or timelines for V2G implementation have yet to be announced. Technical details also remain undisclosed, though Toyota’s German partner, TMH, primarily specialises in AC solutions for bidirectional charging.
