For a brand that’s been shaping motorcycling for over a century, Triumph has always had a knack for staying relevant. Whether it’s building bikes that tore up the Isle of Man, making two-wheeled icons for the silver screen, or creating everyday machines that just work, Triumph has consistently walked the line between legacy and innovation.
And lately, it’s been doing that in a much smaller package.
The 400 platform—co-developed with Indian powerhouse Bajaj—has already given us the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, both of which impressed with their build quality, price, and just how “Triumph” they felt despite their compact footprint. Now, Triumph’s dropping teasers for the sportiest member of the bunch: the Thruxton 400.
The newest teaser was released by Triumph India and takes the form of an Instagram reel that shows some key features of the bike in rapid succession. If you blink at any point, you’ll likely miss it, so I suggest watching it over and over again, as I did. We catch glimpses of the bike from the rear-three-quarter angle (though it’s been heavily blurred), as well as a close up of the headlight, fuel filler cap, engine, and Triumph emblem. It’s obvious that it’s built on the same platform as the Speed and Scrambler 400, but leans deeper into the classic Thruxton silhouette.
The platform underneath is expected to remain largely unchanged. That means the same 398cc liquid-cooled single putting out around 40 horsepower, paired with a steel trellis frame, 43mm USD fork, and ByBre brakes clamping a 300mm front disc. The geometry may be tweaked slightly for a sportier feel, but most of the core hardware will likely mirror what we’ve already seen on the Speed 400.
So, the big question: will it come to the US?
Nothing’s official yet, but if Triumph follows the same rollout as the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, then yes, we’ll probably see the Thruxton 400 land in North American showrooms sometime after its India launch. And honestly, it would be a missed opportunity if it didn’t. Lightweight, good-looking, and characterful bikes are exactly what we need more of, especially ones that don’t break the bank, all while showing off a little heritage, too.
Because when a bike looks this cool, feels this approachable, and carries a name as heavy as the Thruxton, it’s obvious that it’s more than just nostalgia. It’s a bike designed to get new riders on a Triumph, and for seasoned riders to take a second look.
