The 2025 Volvo EX90 can now power a home through bi-directional charging when paired with dcbel’s Ara Home Energy Station.

Volvo Cars announced that 2025 Volvo EX90 owners in the U.S. can now use bi-directional charging through dcbel’s Ara Home Energy Station, enabling the electric SUV to function as an energy source for the home.

    Vehicle-to-Home Capability

The EX90 is the first Volvo model equipped with hardware and software to support bi-directional charging. The system allows the vehicle to send power back to a residence, including during outages, offering added resiliency and flexibility. Volvo said this capability also supports broader energy-management efforts by helping reduce strain on the grid during peak demand periods.

dcbel’s Ara Home Energy Station manages two-way energy flow between the home and EV. The unit can power a home, charge two EVs at once in AC or DC, and integrate other household energy sources through built-in controls and automation. It is designed for indoor or outdoor installation.

“We continue to enhance ownership benefits for the EX90 by enabling it to send power back to the home,” said Jim Nichols, head of Product & Technology Consumer Offer for Volvo Cars in the Americas. “Working with dcbel supports our broader electrification and smart home energy strategy.”

Customers can reserve the Ara Home Energy Station directly through dcbel.
