There is something addictive about the instant hit of a twin-screw supercharger. You touch the throttle, and the torque is just there. Vortech Superchargers understands this, and at PRI 2025, they decided it was time to give the people what they wanted. After years of focusing strictly on their centrifugal lineup, they are bringing back the Lysholm name with a new 3.0-liter supercharger.
This isn’t a nostalgia play, though. The engineers at Vortech took a hard look at the old designs and realized they left a lot of power on the table. The primary change in this new 3.0-liter unit is the discharge port. In the older “L-land” era blowers, the port was smaller, which restricted air as it exited the rotors. That restriction creates heat, and heat is the enemy of horsepower. The new case design opens that area up, allowing for smoother airflow and higher efficiency at high rpm. It means you can spin this blower faster without it turning into a heat pump.
Vortech was pretty candid with us about the state of the market. They know they aren’t the only game in town for positive displacement blowers. However, they believe their strength lies in the execution. They are promising OEM-quality castings, brackets that actually line up, and a belt drive system that doesn’t throw belts every time you shift hard. It is a focus on reliability and “clean” installation that a lot of race-focused parts lack.
For availability, they are starting with the LS platform. It makes sense from a business standpoint — there are a million of them out there. But Ford applications are the very next priority. They know the demand is there. They are even exploring backward compatibility for people who bought Lysholm kits a decade ago. It’s a smart move. Competition breeds better parts, and having Vortech back in the twin-screw mix means we all get better options for making big power.
