Waymo is finally ready to address the challenge of operating at motorway speeds with its 12 November announcement that it would begin offering paid freeway rides in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Phoenix. The development marks a significant milestone for the Alphabet-owned self-driving unit which has historically deployed exclusively in urban centres.
