A Vancouver man says his Uber driver was acting strange and creepy during his ride to the airport.

In a TikTok that’s generated over 60,000 views as of this writing, Kodi (@kodi.tyy) says an Uber driver made inappropriate remarks and advancements.

Before that, he says the driver was complaining about Uber’s payment and how they take half of the cut. Kodi says he politely asked the driver about his schedule.

“I work Monday-Saturday with Sundays off for a rest day,” the Uber driver answered, per Kodi.

“It’s great, take a rest day,” Kodi says he replied

He claims the driver responded that the day could also be for intimate relations.

This caught Kodi off guard. He says the Uber driver then told him that people will take his personal number to arrange services directly.

“Do you want my phone number,” the driver purportedly then asked.

    “For rides?” Kodi responded.

“For rides or something else,” he claims the Uber driver replied.

Kodi says that he took the man’s number to be polite. He says the driver said to “please” call him.

“I will. I’ll send you a text,” Kodi replied.

“It doesn’t matter as long as I have your number and I can text you. You are so beautiful,” he alleges the driver said.

The man purportedly continued reminding Kodi he’s off Sundays and also said that he could take a break from work if Kodi wanted to hang out during the week. As they neared the airport, Kodi says the driver told him he was aroused, saying, “I talk to you, and it wakes up.”

The driver also pointed at his crouch area, Kodi says.

When they finally arrived at the airport, the driver pointed at his pants as he helped Kodi with bags. “See what you did to me,” Kodi claims the man said.

Kodi says he grabbed his luggage and fled. Ten minutes later, he says he received a notification from Uber saying the driver was trying to contact him about a lost item. He didn’t recall leaving anything in the car, however, so he ignored it.

Now Kodi feels traumatized, he says.

“I always thought I’d be the type of person in this scenario to shut it down immediately, but I wasn’t. I was genuinely shaking. I should’ve stuck up for myself, but I was vulnerable and scared,” Kodi concludes in the video.

Others claimed to have taken a ride with the same driver.

“STOP I’VE HAD HIM AND HE WAS STRANGE WITH ME TOO,” they wrote.

“Omg I had him as a driver a few weeks ago and he didn’t go as far as wanting me to have his number but he was complaining about the pay,” another replied.

Uber’s TikTok commented on the post, “Support Team Here – This is extremely concerning to hear. Uber takes rider safety very seriously and we’d like to look into this immediately. Please DM us your Uber account information and trip details so we can further investigate.”

Does Uber Have an Assault Problem?

According to Uber, safety isn’t just a feature of the company—it’s a foundation. “We have invested billions of dollars and countless hours to reduce safety incidents during trips, particularly when it comes to sexual misconduct and assault,” Uber says on its website.

However, a New York Times investigation found the company received over 400,000 sexual assault complaints from 2017 to 2022. A podcast by the outlet reported that this means a person gets sexually assaulted by an Uber driver every eight minutes.

Uber denies it and claims the numbers are off.

“First and foremost, the vast majority of the reports cited were less serious and non-physical in nature and did not fall into the category of sexual assault—such as comments about someone’s appearance, flirting, staring, or inappropriate language,” Uber reportedly said.

Its response to the reporting concludes, “These reports were exceptionally rare: during that same time period, 6.3 billion Uber trips took place in the United States, meaning all of the reports amounted to just 0.006% of total trips.”

Kodi declined to comment via email. Motor1 contacted Uber via email. This story will be updated if the company replies.
