Innoviz will supply InnovizTwo short-range LiDAR sensors for Level 4 autonomous Freightliner Cascadia trucks
Daimler Truck and Torc Robotics have selected Innoviz Technologies as their short-range light detection and ranging (LiDAR) supplier for series production of Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Level 4 autonomous Class 8 semi-trucks, with the companies engaging in a joint development effort to advance the sensors for commercial trucking applications. Innoviz will supply its InnovizTwo short-range LiDAR sensors to support Daimler Truck and Torc Robotics’ autonomous commercial vehicle programme, with the technology to be integrated into the autonomous Freightliner Cascadia in combination with Torc’s virtual driver software.
The partnership positions Innoviz’s technology as a component in Daimler Truck’s strategy to bring autonomous trucks to market, with deployment planned across highway and regional routes in North America. Daimler Truck and Torc Robotics rely on a combination of sensor technologies including LiDAR, radar and camera systems.

LiDAR technology uses lasers to generate high-resolution three-dimensional maps of the environment. Autonomous trucks require both long-range LiDAR systems to identify objects at distance and short-range sensors to capture close-proximity data.
