For a lot of riders, the letters “CRF” instantly bring to mind Honda’s no-nonsense approach to off-road fun. Over the years, the CRF family has grown to cover everything from full-blown motocross race machines to approachable dual-sports you can ride to the trailhead.
If you’re like me and you spend most of your time on the street, chances are you’ve had more seat time on the L series—street-legal dual-sports like the CRF300L or CRF150L that can handle both pavement and dirt without complaint. But alongside those is the F series, and that’s a whole different animal. These are off-road-only trail bikes designed for riders who want to head straight into the woods without mirrors, license plates, or any pretense of commuting.
The latest addition to that side of the family is the 2026 CRF300F, which takes over from the CRF250F as Honda’s trail flagship. The jump to a 294cc engine gives it a bit more muscle across the rev range, while a new six-speed transmission means you can stretch each gear a little further or settle into a more relaxed cruise between sections.

Honda also reworked the suspension, giving the conventional fork new settings to resist bottoming out, as well as swapping the bottom triple clamp and rear suspension link to aluminum instead of steel. That shaves weight and sharpens handling without making the bike intimidating.
Visually, the CRF300F borrows a lot from Honda’s CRF Performance motocross bikes, from its radiator shrouds to its updated graphics. There’s also more going on under the skin than just power and looks. An oil cooler helps keep the engine temps in check during long trail rides, while a switch to a more heat-resistant clutch-disc material should help it shrug off abuse when you’re creeping over rocks or slogging through mud.

Like its predecessor, the focus is on approachability and reliability—traits that have earned the F series a loyal following among both beginners and seasoned riders looking for a low-maintenance, high-fun trail bike.
For riders coming from the L series, the CRF300F might feel like a stripped-back sibling at first, but that’s exactly the point. Without the street gear, it’s lighter, simpler, and a little more focused on pure off-road riding. You give up the convenience of riding to the trail, but in return you get a bike that feels more at home once the asphalt ends.
At $4,999, it’s a machine aimed squarely at riders who want the full dirt experience with the backing of Honda’s proven engineering. It’ll start rolling into dealerships in October 2025 in one color: Honda red, as it should be.
