I’ve been fortunate enough to hang out with Travis Pastrana on a few occasions. Once, he challenged me to drive up a rock wall in a Can-Am Maverick X3 two-door, much to the chagrin of my buddy, who used to work for the company. But how could I refuse a challenge from Travis freakin’ ‘Golden Boy’ Pastrana? You’re right, I couldn’t.
So when I say that the man hasn’t lost a step in his decades-long career, despite breaking himself six ways to Sunday, I mean it. He’s a maniac and doesn’t appear to be slowing down either. Though he has been trading two wheels for four wheels more and more often. Yet, his latest acquisition is one that combines the two disciplines in such an insanely rad insane way, I can’t believe he didn’t have it already.
What, pray tell, is it, you ask? Glad you did, as Pastrana just picked up one of those properly bat-crap-crazy Suzuki Hayabusa-powered mini trucks that are famous for doing drift wheelies in the United Kingdom.
For the uncultured swine who don’t know of the mini truck in question (it’s a joke, people), the diminutive little “pickups” are built for short-course grass rallying competition in the U.K., and takes a tube-frame racecar that more resembles a UTV and tosses in two Suzuki Hayabusa engines into its confines. The result is a 380-horsepower “V8” racecar.
But best of all, because it weighs about as much as a napkin, and revs to a bazillion, it can pop wheelies just like where its hearts are sourced from. Wilder still, because of how everything is set up, you can not only pop wheelies, but you can drift while you’re popping wheelies. Did I mention these mini trucks are insane?
According to the video description, “We finally got Liam [Doran] out here to bring the insane Hayabusa-powered mini truck, and this thing is an absolute beast. It’s rocking about 380 horsepower and weighs almost nothing, making it the ultimate toy for wheelie drifts and sketchy slides. I even tried to hold a wheelie in the shop, but things got a little tight with the walls closing in fast. We also let Banksy bring out his budget redneck version of a wheelie machine to see if it could keep up with the dual-engine monster.”
The result of giving Pastrana a Busa-powered V8 mini truck? I’m sure you can imagine. And if you can’t, well, why haven’t you watched the video yet. Now, I just need Travis to invite me over to Pastranaland so I can experience this machine firsthand. I promise not to break it, TP, though I’m not sure how good my word is given my right foot is currently in a brace…
